JSW modernises Jaigarh Port to handle capesize ships

Now port has depth of 19.8 metre

JSW Jaigarh Port achieved another significant distinction on April 17th , 2015 by becoming the first port on the Coast of Maharashtra to berth a capesize vessel, MV Indian Friendship (200000 DWT), which arrived carrying 168000 MT of steam coal for JSW Energy.

  • Jaigarh Port is getting ready for a giant leap to handle 15 MTPA to 65 MTPA cargo per annum and aiming for direct berthing of next generation vessels i.e. largest Bulk Carrier (Vale Max), LNG Carrier (Q-Max), largest Container Vessels (EEE Series - 18000 TEUs) and Very Large Crude Carriers.
  • ´Jaigarh - Digni Rail Limited´ an SPV has been formed and project is being implemented in joint venture along-with Konkan Railway and Government of Maharashtra.
  • Jaigarh Port would be connected to Indian Railways network by March 2018.
  • Ministry of Shipping has identified Jaigarh Port in formation of a Coastal Economic Region in the visionary Sagarmala Project on the West Coast and is poised to drive economic development of the region.

Developing a domestic transshipment port is a good idea if we talk about seaports, there are several countries and commercial centers around the world that don’t have a seaport and these countries have to use the seaports of other countries in order to import or export their cargo, which will give a competitive advantage.
