Mangu Singh is the Managing Director of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation since 1 January 2012. Before assuming charge as the new Managing Director, Singh was working with DMRC as Director, Works.
Since joining DMRC in 1997 as Chief Engineer, Singh has played a prominent role in the execution of many prestigious projects of the Corporation. All the major underground corridors built and commissioned by DMRC so far have been constructed under his astute leadership.
He has successfully headed the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects of Delhi Metro, the only such successful project in the railway transportation sector in the world. In fact, as a result of these initiatives, Delhi Metro has become the first-ever railway project in the world to claim carbon credits.
The prestigious Airport Express Link connecting New Delhi with the Indira Gandhi International Airport has also been constructed under his supervision. This link is India´s first-ever high-speed Metro corridor and has catapulted Delhi to the elite league of global cities such as London, New York, Shanghai etc, which have such connectivity between the airport and the city centre. Singh has also been instrumental in preparing the master plan and detailed project reports for Metro systems in other cities of the country like Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, Lucknow, Kochi, Jaipur, Ludhiana and Ahmedabad.
His experience includes rail-based transportation projects, its planning & execution, procurement of works and services for mega projects on design and built contracts basis, handling multilateral funding agencies, development of bid documents for Metro projects on PPP basis, management of concession contracts and CDM projects.
Singh has contributed greatly in the project implementation of Kolkata Metro and has been responsible for bringing revolutionary changes in the execution of large Metro engineering projects (civil) within tight deadlines and budget. He has vast experience and expertise in construction of underground structures in urban environment. He is currently the President of the Tunneling Association of India.
