To increase traffic through its route, Paradip Port Trust (PPT) in Odisha has decided to establish 'containerised cargo handling' infrastructure. The port is now worried over diversion of specific cargoes to major ports.
The port's exports have gone up and to handle them the port authorities have chalked out a plan to install containerised cargo handling facilities. The Container Corporation of India and Warehousing Corporation of India have shown interest in the project.
The containerised system in the port would come up very shortly if things moved as per the plan. In the first phase, inland container depot would come up to handle seafood in refrigerated containers, the port said.
