Infrastructure Today Magazine | Chandigarh roads to be widened soon

Chandigarh roads to be widened soon

States to be asked to emulate Surat's ring road model
Rs 6 cr for relaying of Kochi's MG Road stretch

Web Exclusive  /  Jan 2013

In Chandigarh, the pending demand of widening roads in several parts of the city has finally been heard by the authorities concerned and the UT and municipal corporation have started the exercise in this regard.

Apart from sector intersections, the highway passing in front of Beant Singh Memorial and ISBT-43 is also being widened. This stretch is being developed as the administration wants heavy vehicles to take this road on city outskirts instead of Dakshin Marg. Another lane is being added on both sides of this road.

The residents and showroom owners had been demanding wider roads between Chandigarh and Mohali for over two years, but the decision to go ahead with the work is being taken only now. The slip roads along Madhya Marg in sectors 7 and 8 are also being widened keeping in mind the growing traffic congestion on this stretch.

Agree. Developing a domestic transshipment port is a good idea if we talk about seaports, there are several countries and commercial centers around the world that don’t have a seaport and these countries have to use the seaports of other countries in order to import or export their cargo, which will give a competitive advantage.
